Of all the activities that I attended while pursuing the Global Learning Medallion, one of my favorites was that of Paula Williams Madison. Paula, who is a very inspiration woman, shares her story of how she longed to find her mother's side of the family with whom she was estranged and Paula had never met. It was heartwarming to see her share her personal journey in her documentary "Finding Samuel Lowe: From Harlem to China. Paula searched for her mother's side of the family, which is Chinese. Her mother and father met in Jamaica, while her mother's appearance was that of an Asian white woman and her father's appearance was that of a Jamaican man. Paula looked African American and therefore was afraid that once she found her Chinese side of the family that they would not accept her. Once she finally found her family, they were very accepting of her and were ecstatic to find out they had family they did not know about. Paula's story was beautiful and eye-opening, it shows how love can transcend color and ethnicity. After all, we are all human and we should not be discriminated against because of the color of our skin or where we come from.
