Reflection

Global Perspective: My global perspective has definitely changed since I first started my journey with global learning at FIU. I believe that having a well rounded understanding of the different opinions and ways of expressing those opinions around you, ultimately enriches your decision-making process. I first realized this when I started my internship at Angelfish USA. There were times that we would have meetings in which we had to all give ideas for a specific project and there were many people who wanted their ideas to be heard. When it came time to making a decision about a project I decided to think back to these meetings and look at the notes I had jotted down and incorporate these ideas into my decision. My ability to incorporate other's views and assumptions into my decisions has improved tremendously. Due to having to cater to clients from different countries and cultures I always had to take into account the different opinions and  views and incorporate these ideas as best as I could to accommodate various perspectives. Specific skills that I have improved would have to be communication and self-awareness. Having to communicate with others of different ethnicity and culture, I have learned to be self-aware and communicate in a way that I do not offend or make myself misunderstood.

Global Awareness: I have always believed that we are all interconnected and what happens in one can country can affect what happens in another country. A lot of people don't realize how big the world actually is outside of your country. After attending many activities that involved informing people of what is going on around the world and how, for example, Donal Trump becoming president of the United States has had consequences and affected other countries, such as China and countries in the Middle East. I am more aware now than I ever was, we are not divided by our nationalities or language but rather we are united and we are here to represent and speak for those who have no voice.

Global Engagement: As an FIU alumni, I am pursuing a Masters in Global Strategic Communication and therefore implementing my global perspective and awareness. In my professional career as a communications specialist I will be an advocate for the multitude of countries and cultures out there and make sure that the message is always accommodating for everyone to understand. I have also given some thought to joining the Peace Corps if my post-graduate plans don't go accordingly.
